World Architecture Festival 2018 fringe events programme

With just a few weeks to go before the opening of the World Architecture Festival 2018 (28-30 November), architects visiting the event in Amsterdam can look forward to a lively World Architecture Festival 2018 Fringe events programme.

World Architecture Festival 2018 Fringe events programme will supplement the core WAF18 awards and talks programme, which this year is themed on the subject of identity. Visitors will have the opportunity to make new contacts as they enjoy a range of activities including architectural tours, an architecture-themed film festival and street takeover.

Highlights of the World Architecture Festival 2018 Fringe events programme include:

• World Architecture Festival 2018 Welcome Reception – All are welcome to attend this celebratory opening bash, which takes place on 27 November on the eve of the core WAF programme. Festivities kick off at 7pm in the Boat House, Strandzuid, within the Amsterdam RAI.

• World Architecture Festival 2018 Street Takeover – WAF 2018 is taking over Reguliersdwarsstraat (between Koningsplein – Vijzelstraat) for a night of festivities on 28 November. The street will be divided into two restaurant zones at either end with a network/party area in the middle. Visitors will receive special discounts in several bars and restaurants throughout the area.

• World Architecture Festival 2018 Architect Tours – Visitors can enjoy Amsterdam’s distinctive architectural identity from its magnificent historic heritage to the latest contemporary buildings. The bespoke five-day tour programme includes boat excursions as well as bus tours of the central waterfront, the Eastern and Western Docklands, and the Amsterdam School of architecture.

• World Architecture Festival 2018 Architecture Film Festival – WAF is presenting the four winning entries from the 2017 ArchFilmFest international film competition, which received more than 150 entries from around the world. The category winning films for Documentary Feature, Fiction Short, Experimental Short and “From Above” will be shown on 30 November from 10am in Crit Room 14. The bi-annual festival was founded in 2015 by architect Charlotte Skene Catling, and designer and producer Manuel Toledo Otaegui.

WAF’s sister event, INSIDE World Festival of Interiors, will run alongside the architectural festival, showcasing 2018’s most innovative interiors projects from more than 500 award finalists. Together, the events will welcome more than 2000 delegates to the city from 28-30 November.

About the Author:

After thirteen years as Communications Manager for Valcucine, as well as a two-year stint at Driade, I felt the need to launch something fresh and original in the design and architecture world. A showroom, a trade fair or an advertisement are not enough to understand a brand, its underlying philosophies, and how it undergoes its product development, so I wanted to create a new way of connecting architects and interior designers with top design companies. Here I write news about architecture, interior design, industrial design, cultural heritage and our design and architecture tours.
